The CentreWare configuration will show any newly discovered Xerox devices in proper symbol and poll the Xerox devices each time it runs. * In order to view the trap messages on console, Open the netview map using the command "netview -nl". ============================================================ Un-installation Instructions ============================================================ Solaris/AIX--- -------------- The Uninstall package for the product is created during the install process. The Un-installation binary and support files for the product uninstall are created in the directory: /opt/Xerox/CW4TivoliNetView/<_uninst folder> The Product is un-installed by using the command-line: ./CW4TivoliUninstaller.bin NOTE: <_uninst folder> is the folder location where the Uninstaller for the given version is placed. User may find multiple _uninst folders, followed with a numeric value, say _uninst1, _uninst2 and so on. Go to the latest one and then run the uninstaller. * The uninstaller will remove the all the files copied as part of CentreWare for Tivoli NetView, remove the Xerox device icon from the map and will revert the NetView databases back to their state before the CentreWare installation. Windows--- -------------- * Open Control Panel * Go to Add/Remove Programs * Select "Xerox CentreWare for Tivoli NetView v" (where xxx is the version number) * Click on the add/remove button * Follow the Uninstaller prompts NOTE-1: In case you get an error related to JVM resolution during the plugin uninstall using the methods listed above, please go to the directory where CW4TivoliUinstaller.exe exists and issue the following command... CW4TivoliUninstaller.exe -is:javahome where is the path where the _jvm folder exists (this path would be where the plugin has been installed originally). Example: If the plugin was installed under C:\Program Files\Xerox\CW4Tivoli then the command to be issued would be.. C:\Program Files\Xerox\CW4TivoliNetView\<_uninst folder>\CW4TivoliUninstaller.exe -is:javahome "C:\Program Files\Xerox\CW4TivoliNetView\_jvm" Note-2: In case you get an message box "Drive:\usr\OV\Bin\XeroxBill\UsageCounter.db exists on the system and it has been modified since installation. Do you want to remove this file?" related to UsageCounter.db during the plugin uninstall using the methods listed above, please click yes or yes to all. Note-3: <_uninst folder> is the folder location where the Uninstaller for the given version is placed. ============================================================ Configuring Xerox Devices Polling ============================================================ * Due to limitations of Tivoli NetView for Solaris & AIX, no color coded status for Xerox devices is represented in the form of an underlying "Printer Agent". However the "Printer Agent" service is generated in the background and handles the appropriate logging of events in the Event Configuration Window of your Tivoli NetView console. * nvsniffer is used to poll the Xerox devices for status. By default, status is checked every ten (10) minutes for all Xerox devices. To change polling intervals at the command prompt Enter "nvsniffer -t 1 -T 30 -c /usr/OV/conf/xrxsniffer.conf -r -s" The is the number of minutes between polls. If omitted, nvsniffer just runs once. Run 'nvsniffer -?' to see a full list of options. * To enable or disable the device status events for all Xerox devices, the /usr/OV/conf/xrxsniffer.conf configuration file can be edited. The second field controls the options to the xrx_prnStatus.dll program. Valid options are as follows: -c event_number Generate events for critical printer errors. Uses the provided event number to generate a NetView enterprise specific event. -w event_number Generates events for warning printer errors. Uses the provided event number to generate a NetView enterprise specific event. -o event_number Generates events for other printer errors. Uses the provided event number to generate a NetView enterprise specific event. -d Turns on SNMP packet dump for debug purposes. -l Turns on logging to /usr/OV/log/xrxpslog.txt -s Use this option to have nvsniffer run in Status Mode. Separate options with spaces. If the -c, -w and -o options are omitted, color coded status will still be enabled for Xerox devices but without generating NetView events. ============================================================ Known Issues ============================================================ 1) On some installations the Xerox device symbol may not change after installation. In these instances, the devices symbol properties must be changed to the Xerox device specific properties or must be removed from the database and rediscovered for the correct symbol set to appear. 2) CentreWare plugin installer schedules command (using at scheduler) to poll Xerox devices at specified intervals. In case the system is down or the NetView services are not running at the scheduled time, it can cause the routine polling schedule to stop and the Xerox devices in the maps do not depict the latest status. To resolve the issue, user must manually run the command as described in the "Configuring Xerox devices Polling" section mentioned above in the readme. 3) Tivoli NetView on Solaris does not show the complete Trap information details. This is a known issue, the workaround is to * Install Tivoli NetView 7.1.3 * Install CW4Tivoli plugin * Install 7.1.3-NVD-SunOS-FP03.tar.Z fixpatch available on IBM website. 4) For installing the plugin on NetView 7.1.4 for Solaris, please ensure that fixpack02 is installed on the system (available on IBM's website). 5) In case Un-installation of plugin is not proper in AIX, it may give error "Xerox CentreWare for Tivoli NetView is already installed in the target System" in further installations of the plugin. To resolve this issue, user should follow the following process:- * Invoke smit from command-line * Select "Software Installation and Maintenance" * Select "Software Maintenance and Utilities" * Select "Remove Installed Software" In the Software Dialog * "Software Name" - select "CW4TivoliNetView" * "Review Only" - select "No" * "Remove Dependent Software" - select "Yes" * "Extend FileSystems if space is needed" - select "Yes" * "Detailed Output" - select "Yes" After performing these steps, user will be able to install a new version of plugin without issues. 6) On Windows XP systems, local Firewall can cause the Traps not to be received on the machine as incoming traffic is restricted. Please disable the local Firewall after consulting with your System Administrator. 7) During plugin installation and un-installation on Tivoli NetView, or while opening the map an error may occur stating: "/usr/OV/bin/disptec.exe Unable to get map info: The map is not open.. Exiting..." To resolve this issue, move the file /usr/OV/registration/C/tivoli/disptec.reg to a directory outside of /usr/OV/registration/. Note: disptec.exe is used for getting TEC events. 8) CentreWare plugin installation/un-installation, the plugin opens the NetView GUI, which may pop the "Tip of the day" dialog box, which does not get closed automatically and requires user intervention to close it. 9) Canceling the plugin un-installation process in Solaris could leave your NetView unusable. Although pressing the cancel button will pop up a message asking the user to confirm their decision, canceling the uninstall should still be avoided. 10) For some of the Xerox devices, the user might see these two generic message logged in the Event Browser.. a) Trap found with no known format in trapd.conf Enterprise(1.3.6.1.4.1.253.8.59.19.4.0.0).... b) Trap found with no known format in trapd.conf Enterprise(1.3.6.1.4.1.253.8.83.2.0.0.0.0).... These trap messages are the result of the Job monitoring traps sent by the device, please ignore them. 11) In Solaris, if after TrapRegistration, traps are not received in the Event Browser, close the Tivoli NetView GUI. Then in the terminal window, execute the ovstop and ovstart commands, before opening the Tivoli NetView GUI. 12) Sometimes the TrapRegistration/UnRegistration fails for some device/s. One of the reasons could be a non-default read/write community string set on the device/s. To take care of this, our plugin copies the file Xrx_CommString.ini in the /Xerox folder, during the respective plugin installation. Manually edit this file to enter the relevant community entries under the [GetCommunityString] and [SetCommunityString] sections and then increment the getCommunityCount and setCommunityCount values depending on the number of entries in each section using the correct format. Save the file without editing any other sections of the file. This file normally contains the default public and private entries. 13) In order to view the trap messages on console, Open the netview map using the command "netview -nl".Do not close the console while registering or unregistering for traps. 14) In case you get an message box "Drive:\usr\OV\Bin\XeroxBill\UsageCounter.db exists on the system and it has been modified since installation. Do you want to remove this file?" related to UsageCounter.db during the plugin uninstall using the methods listed above, please click yes or yes to all. 15) For trap processing to work properly (i.e for trap description in the event console and corresponding status colors for printer symbol), the trapd daemon should be up and running. Please ensure the trapd daemon is running. 16) When a trap is generated for a device, the nvsniffer changes the device symbol color in the map and generates the related message (example:"Service printer Agent Critical") in the event console. This message may not appear in the eventviewer with the normal refresh. When next alert comes, the message is flushed out in the event browser but with proper time. 17) Ensure that all the daemons are running at the time when nvsniffer is scheduled for status polling. 18) Sometimes there is inconsistency in database, so a startovtopofix.bat file is scheduled to run everyday. This file detects and corrects inconsistencies that might have developed between the IP topology database maintained by ovtopmd and the database maintained by ovwdb for the ovw command. 19) Log will not be maintained for single Xerox device trap registration/unregistration.
