READ THIS FIRST! Please review all instructions prior to beginning the process. If you are connected by USB, you must make sure your firmware version is at 1.07. If you are connected via the parallel port the firmware upgrade is not necessary. NOTE: If you are connecting to the parallel port make sure that there are no other parallel port devices installed on the PC. If so, uninstall them using instructions provided by their manufacturer. To determine your firmware level press the "Reports" button on the WC 490 control panel until you see "System Data", then press the Start button. The System Data list will print out. At the bottom of the page it should say flash ROM version 1.07, if the number is below 1.07 go to the Xerox XP support page and locate the firmware download file "XP 490F.exe" along with the Installation Instructions. If you installed your driver from the CD, you must first uninstall it before installing the driver from the web page. 1) Click on Start, and then go to All Programs. 2) Locate the folder Xerox WorkCentre 490cx, then click on Printer Driver Uninstaller PRINT DRIVER INSTALLATION 1) Attach the appropriate communication cable. (Parallel or USB) 2) If present, close the Found New Hardware Wizard by clicking on Cancel. 3) Exit all applications on the PC prior to installing the drivers. 4) Go to www.xerox.com, and click on "Drivers" 5) Locate: "Important! For information about Xerox printers and Microsoft® Windows® XP, Click Here." Click on the text "Click Here" 6) Locate WC 490 in the table and click on the text in the right hand column. 7) Click on the print driver file "XP 490P.exe" 8) Click on OPEN 9) Click on OK 10) Click on Continue Anyway 11) Click on OK 12) Reboot the computer.
