6-1. Search targets

The targets of the Spotlight search are texts or document information of DocuWorks files.

Texts - Body texts
- OCR processed texts
- Texts in text annotations (including texts on text annotations pasted to notepad annotations)

In case of protected documents, among the documents with password-protected security, DocuWorks files that have no open passwords and copying is allowed are the targets of Spotlight search.
Document information

- Number of pages (the number of pages in a DocuWorks file)
In case of protected documents, among the documents with password-protected security, DocuWorks files that have no open passwords are the targets of the search.
- Versions (the version of a DocuWorks file)
The version is displayed as "Ver.X" (X is the number from 1 through 6)
- Security settings
The search results are displayed as follows:
"None" for unprotected documents
"Password Encrypted" for password protected documents
"Other" for documents that are protected with Electronic Signatures or Digital Certificates

- Title
- Subject
- Author*4
- Keywords*4
- Comments

*4 A comma "," inserted between authors or keywords delimits those elements of the search criteria and allows a search for each text string. The comma itself is not included in the search criteria.

7. Notes and Restrictions

The following covers notes and restrictions on operating Viewer Light (for Mac).

7-1. Notes on distributing or exhibiting DocuWorks files

Depending on the operation done on the DocuWorks Windows® version, some DocuWorks files may not be opened or properly displayed/printed.
Note the following points when you create DocuWorks documents with the Windows® version with the aim of distributing/exhibiting them on the Macintosh environment.
- The DocuWorks documents secured by digital stamps or digital certificate (secured documents) cannot be opened.
- Self-extracting documents cannot be opened.
- DocuWorks documents carrying OLE annotations may not be displayed/printed properly.
- The links to other files or profile display styles do not work.
The display/print results in Viewer Light (for Mac) may differ depending on whether the file have been converted with Microsoft® Windows® 95/Microsoft® Windows® 98/Microsoft® Windows® Me or Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0/Microsoft® Windows® 2000/Microsoft® Windows® XP/Microsoft® Windows Vista.
For example, when a document contains pictographic character fonts such as WingDings and is not displayed/printed properly in Viewer Light (for Mac) when it is converted into the DocuWorks document on Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0, the same document is properly displayed/printed when it is converted on Microsoft® Windows® 95/Microsoft® Windows® 98/Microsoft® Windows® Me.

7-2. Operation

- Depending on the application, the printing may process character shadows or embossed characters as multiple characters. Because the displayed text information within the DocuWorks document converted from those applications is saved as multiple characters, text search may not function correctly. (13944)

7-3. Viewing and Printing

- DocuWorks documents carrying OLE annotations may not be displayed/printed properly. Such DocuWorks documents may be displayed/printed properly when either of the following actions is taken on the DocuWorks Windows® version:
- Select DocuWorks Printer in DocuWorks Print and convert the file into DocuWorks file again.
- Convert the file into image pages with Process Pages plug-in. (5810)
- DocuWorks files are created with the drawing commands for Windows®. This sometimes makes the display/print result different on Viewer Light (for Mac) on Mac OS. (5825)
- Characters are displayed/printed by substituting Mac OS fonts. However, some fonts do not have the perfect match as Windows® and Mac OS have different types and information on fonts. In some applications, documents may be converted as follows: the font type change, the characters are garbled, some parts of the characters are chipped away, the characters are not in place or flattened out, or the width expanded characters appear in normal width. Sometimes one-byte characters lap over and the characters appear to be chipped away In some vertical writings, parentheses() may be in horizontal direction. Asterisks (*) may be in out of place. The symbols or bullets that are included in fonts have the same limitations. (5813,13844)
- Depending on the application used for conversion, the display/print result of the shaded or patterned graphics may turn into solid graphics or in different color, appear unevenly depending on the combination of the pattern and color, or some of the parts may be chipped away. Those are likely to happen in the DocuWorks documents created from Ichitaro® of Justsystems Corporation® or OASYS® of Fujitsu Limited. (5815)
- Depending on the application used for conversion, some of the fine lines or ruled lines are not displayed/printed in the DocuWorks files. (5816)
- Depending on the application used for conversion, some fine dotted lines may disappear, be blurred, become solid lines, or the intervals of the dots may differ in the displayed/printed DocuWorks documents. (5817)
- Depending on the applications used for conversion, some bitmap characters or outlined characters may be blurred in the displayed/printed DocuWorks documents. Those are likely to happen in the DocuWorks documents created from Ichitaro® of Justsystems Corporation® or OASYS® of Fujitsu Limited or Adobe® Acrobat®. (5820)
- Depending on the type of the application used for conversion, the width of the lines may slightly differ in the displayed/printed DocuWorks documents. (5821)
- Depending on the application used for conversion, fine lines may be displayed/printed on the boundaries of some graphics primitives in the DocuWorks documents. This is the limitation that comes from the difference in the ways of coordinate calculations between Mac OS and Windows®. (5822,5877)
- In case the file contains images or graphic data such as bitmap or color patterns, it may take time to display the converted DocuWorks documents in Viewer Light (for Mac). (670)
- The DocuWorks document that contains complicated drawings (such as filled with patterns, gradients, a large number of bitmaps, etc.) may not be printed. In such a case, the document can be printed by submitting print order from the preview window.(12109)
- The density of the patterns may change when printing the bitmap patterns on PS printers. (12122,12204)
- In some vertically written documents, characters in horizontal direction may be displayed in vertical direction. (12214)
- On a Power PC Machine, you cannot print multiple DocuWorks files by dragging-and-dropping them into the printer icon. Viewer Light may be aborted if you submit such print order. (12737)

7-4. Memory and Performance

- When the DocuWorks document that has been created from a file that contains complicated drawings (such as filled with patterns, gradients, a large number of bitmaps, etc.) is submitted to a PostScript® printer, the volume of such PostScript data is large. It may take more time to print such document than the original, or it may exceed the printer capacity. (5843)

7-5. Notes on Spotlight Search

- A file containing a large number of characters, such as more than several thousand pages, may not be the target of the Spotlight Search as it is unable to register the data for search of such a file to the system.(12771)
- Due to the differences in search algorithm or character codes, sometimes the search results may differ between Viewer Light document search and Spotlight desktop search.(12775)
