Verify that SNMP is installed and running by going to Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Services. SNMP Service should be started. If SNMP Service is not in the list, add it by going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Management and Monitoring Tools -> Simple Network Management Protocol (enable). 2. Check for Microsoft Updates. 3. If necessary modify the hosts file to associate host names with ip addresses. The hosts file is usually found in \WINNT\system32\drivers\etc. 4. Before uninstallation of “CentreWare Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager” existing version of the Management Pack (Xerox.Printer.mp) should be present. 5. For every fresh installation, uninstall the old version of “CentreWare Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager”. Install CentreWare Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager from the distribution cD or by using the msi (installation) file. Reboot the SCOM server. Recommended (but not required) after the installation: 1. In the left Administration pane, select Management Packs. Right click on Management Packs and select Import Management Packs. Follow the steps in the Management Pack Import Wizard. Import the Management Pack with the name "Xerox Printer.mp" from the path C:\Program Files\Xerox\CentreWare Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager. 2. In the left Authoring pane select Management Packs Objects-> Monitors. In the Detail pane, expand SNMP Network Device, then expand Entity Health and Availability. Verify that printer status monitors are present, e.g. Door Open, Input Tray Empty, and Low Paper. ========================================================= 4) Operation ========================================================= • Open the System Center Operations Manager Operations console. In the Administration view, use the Discovery Wizard to find Network Devices. Xerox Printers will be in the list of the discovered devices under Administration > Device Management > Network Devices. Detailed instructions can be found in the Xerox Printer Management Pack for System Center Operations 2007 User Guide. • Import the Xerox.Printer.mp management pack. After importing check for “Xerox Printer” in the list of management packs. • In the Monitoring navigation pane, a Xerox Printer folder will be created after importing the management pack. The Alerts and Usage Counters (Performance View) view selections are available under this folder. • In the Monitoring navigation pane, the status of the printers can be displayed by selecting Network Devices State in the Network Device folder. ========================================================== 5) Known Issues ========================================================== • After importing the Xerox Printer Management pack, the Monitoring pane will show a Xerox printer folder containing the "Alerts" and "Usage Counters". If you select Usage Counters then a list of print counters is displayed in the Legend pane. If the list is not displayed then a SCOM server reboot is required. • Once the list of counters is displayed in the Legend pane then place a check in one of the counters to view the graph. If the graph is not displayed then click on the Performance Action link "Select time range" and modify the date to view the graph. • Phaser 6180 and Phaser 6180MFP printers support only SNMP v1, and since SCOM 2007 doesn't support SNMP v1, Phaser 6180 and Phaser 6180MFP printers are not discovered. • In Usage Counters, under the Xerox Printer folder in the Monitoring view, changes to “Select time range…” may not be correctly reflected in the Usage Counters graphs. • If a Xerox Printer is replaced by another device that uses the same IP network address then the Network Device State may show the new printer in a critical state even though the device is in a healthy state. To fix this problem, delete the printer from the Network device list and rediscover it. • In health status view, sometimes the printer(s) state is going to "Unknown" state. To fix this problem, delete the printer from the Network device list and rediscover it. • SCOM 2007 doesn’t allow any task to run more than 5 minutes. • In the Monitoring pane, in the Network Devices State view, under the State column, a newly-discovered printer state may sometimes go from Unknown to Health incorrectly. It takes a maximum of 17 minutes to create an alert, if there are any, and display the correct state. • In Scom-ConfigSets feature, LDAP mapping would not work for some devices though they support the LDAP ==========================================================
