Hardware, Software, and Configuration Requirements ================================================================ The following are the minimum system requirements for installation: (Based upon specific system configuration and needs, additional hardware may be required.) Operating System: - Windows® 10 - Windows® 10 x64 - Windows® 10 IOT - Windows® 11 Professional - Windows® 11 Enterprise - Windows Server® 2012 - Windows Server® 2012 R2 - Windows Server® 2016 - Windows Server® 2019 - Windows Server® 2022 Database Server: - SQL Server® Express 2014 SP2 - SQL Server® Express 2016 SP1 - SQL Server® Express 2017 - SQL Server® Express 2019 - SQL Server® 2014 SP2 - SQL Server® 2016 SP1 - SQL Server® 2017 - SQL Server® 2019 Free Disk Space: 3 GB (20GB if collecting Job Data or historical data on thousands of devices) 3 GHz x86 processor, minimum 4 GB of RAM, with SQL Server® installed on the same system A separate server with SQL Server® installed is required if: a. the number of groups configured for concurrent status polling is greater than 20, AND/OR b. the number of alert profiles is greater than 20, AND/OR c. Job data consumption is greater than 100,000/week. When running on a virtual server the base system must have enough memory to support requirements listed above as well as having enough memory to run the base operating system on the host machine. Network: The TCP/IP protocol must be loaded and operational. To use the IPX Network features of CentreWare Web, an IPX protocol stack must be loaded and operational. CWW no longer ships with SQL Server® Express because of its large download size. You can download the latest version of SQL Server® Express at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx. CWW requires the 4.8 version of the Microsoft®.NET framework to be installed before the application is installed. CWW requires Microsoft® Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 to use some of the functionality in CWW. This can be installed before or after CWW is installed and can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993C0BCF-3BCF-4009-BE21-27E85E1857B1. Browsers -------- CWW was designed to be accessed by a browser running on client systems. Optimal performance can be achieved by using Microsoft Edge (version 91 or above) or Chrome. These browsers must be installed on the client before CWW can be accessed. ================================================================ 2. Unsupported and Untested ================================================================ Network Operating System (NOS) ------------------------------ Operating System configurations that are not supported: - Windows NT™ 4 - Windows® 2000 - Windows® 2003 - Windows® 2008 - Windows® XP - Windows Vista® - Windows® 8 - Windows® 7 Professional - Windows® 7 Professional x64 - Windows® 8.1 - Windows® 8.1 x64 - Windows Server® 2008 R2 SP1 - Windows® systems running the Novell client. - System Center 2022 - Macintosh® - Non-NTFS partitions - Operating systems running Terminal Services for Applications CWW only installs on and supports Intel® (and compatible) architectures. Databases --------- - SQL Server® Express 2005 and SQL Server® 2005 - SQL Server® Express 2008 and SQL Server® 2008 - SQL Server® Express 2008 R2 SP3 and SQL Server® 2008 R2 SP3 - SQL Server® Express 2012 and SQL Server® 2012 General ------- CWW only supports Intel® Windows NT™ Point and Print drivers, version 4.0 and later. To install additional drivers: Windows® 10/11 -------------- Start -> Printers and Scanners -> Select a printer -> Printer Properties -> Sharing -> Additional Drivers. CWW have both HTTP and HTTPs bindings which enables WCF clients to communicate with CWW WCF server in either ways. HTTP binding is only used by the devices which are not HTTPS capable. If we disable it, that will result in a failure in communication with CWW. ======================================================================== 3. CWW Installation Instructions ======================================================================== The account that is used to install the software must have administrative privileges on the server. Run As Privileges ----------------- By default, the CWW software installation program creates the “CentreWare Web” user account with administrative rights in order to administer printer queues on the local system. However, when installing CWW, you may optionally specify the account information that CWW will use to manage queues by selecting the advanced button. The account information entered in the advanced dialog must have Administrative privileges on each server that will be managed by CWW; otherwise management of some of the functionality will be limited. An account has administrative privileges if it is in the Administrators group or if it is in a group that is in the Administrators group. Therefore, if the account only has administrative privileges on the server that CWW is installed on, then only queues created on that server will be managed by CWW. It is then very important to use a valid user name and password that corresponds to an existing account in the Administrators group or in a group that is in the Administrators group on both the local server and on servers that will have CWW Web managed queues. Microsoft SQL Server® ------------------------- The simplest way to connect to a SQL server\Express\Microsoft® SQL Server® Desktop Engine (MSDE) is to have it running on the default port of 1433 or to run the SQL Server Browser service on the server hosting SQL Server® Otherwise, you must specify the port that SQL Server® is running on to the installer. In the SQL Connection dialog of the installation specify the server in the following format: \,. If the installation of SQL Server® is not an instance the following format may be used: ,. Port is optional and only needs to be specified if it is not running on 1433 AND the SQL browser service is not running. The default instance name of a SQL Server® Express install is SQLEXPRESS (for example: local\SqlExpress) Basic Authentication -------------------- To comply with HTTP specifications, most browsers support Basic authentication. Basic authentication is a security method that uses a standard HTTP mechanism in which user information is sent and received as clear text. It uses a base64 encoded string that contains the user name and password. The term clear text indicates that data is transmitted as clear readable text characters rather than as binary bit-streamed information, which is not text-formatted. The encoded user names and passwords are used when IIS prompts for a valid Windows user account and password. This option can be changed after the installation of Xerox CentreWare® Web by performing the following steps. 1. Choose Start>All Programs or Programs>Administrative Tools>Internet Information Services or Internet Services Manager. 2. Open the properties tab of the Xerox CentreWare® Web Directory. Expand (click the +): local server and Default Web Site. Right-click Xerox CentreWare® Web and select Properties. 3. Modify the Basic Authentication setting: Select the Directory Security tab and under the Anonymous access and authentication control section, click the Edit button. You can then turn Basic Authentication on or off by selecting or deselecting the Basic Authentication checkbox and clicking Yes, Select All, or OK as necessary. Microsoft® Internet Information (IIS) Server ------------------------------------- IIS must be installed prior to installing Xerox CentreWare® Web in order to access the Web pages of CWW. Once the installation of CWW has completed, any machine on the network will be able to connect to CWW with a browser. The URL for CWW will be http://hostname/XeroxCentreWareWeb where hostname is the DNS name or IP address of the machine that CWW was installed on. HTTP Activation feature in server must be enabled to receive McAfee events. Insufficient Disk Space during Installation ------------------------------------------- The Setup program may fail if there is not sufficient disk space. Please make sure you have more than adequate disk space during installation. Also, see the online help for errors or problems that may be encountered when running CWW. How to back up a database using the Configuration Utility --------------------------------------------------------- The databases for the application could be backed up by using the Configuration Utility that is provided with the software. To access the Configuration Utility, select Start -> Programs -> Xerox -> Xerox CentreWare Web -> Xerox CentreWare® Web Configuration Utility. After launching the application, select the Databases tab. Then select Import/Export button. For exporting enter the path to the location where the databases would be saved on the SQL Server, and then select the Export button. The database export process will prompt the user to let them know the export is complete, but will then restart the Xerox CentreWare Web Services to complete the export process. When the status Dialog closes the process is complete. Importing gives the option to import database. Enter the path to the location where the database is saved on the SQL Server, and then select the Import button. The database import process will prompt the user to let them know the import is complete, but will then restart the Xerox CentreWare Web Services to complete the import process. When the status Dialog closes the process is complete. ======================================================================== 4. Xerox CentreWare® Web Upgrade Instructions ======================================================================== This version of the application will only upgrade 6.5.x and 6.3.x versions of CWW. Before upgrading the application, please back up the application database using the CWW Configuration Utility or SQL Server Management Studio prior to installation of the update. See Section 3 for backing up the database using CWW Configuration Utility. Also, if a different Administrator account will be used, the credentials should be obtained prior to the install. Any browser windows for the application that are open should also be closed. To perform an upgrade of the application (version 6.0 or higher to the current version), ensure the server's hardware requirements are within the system requirements that are provided in section 1. Uninstall the current version. Download the latest version of the application and then run the setup file. If running a version below 6.3.13, you will need to upgrade to 6.3.13 or higher before upgrading to CWW 6.10. ==================================================================== 5. CWW Configuration Utility ==================================================================== The information that is entered for the CWW Web Run As account can be changed after installation with the CWW Configuration Utility. System Administrators can also use this utility to modify the SQL Server® database accounts CWW uses. ================================================================ 6. CWW Supported Printers ================================================================ Any printer directly attached to the network that supports SNMP and the standard printer MIB (RFC 1759) are supported. The SNMP Object Identifier (OID) sysObjectID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0), and ifPhysAddress (1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.6.1 or 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.6.2) must be supported, or Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). To be fully compliant the printer must support prtGeneralReset (1.3.6.1.2.1.43.5.1.1.3.1). If a device does not support prtGeneralReset but its sysObjectID OID starts with one of these strings it will be added as a non-compliant printer: 1.3.6.1.4.1.0.8.62.1.7.5.5.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.108.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.128.2.2 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.10.10.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.253. 1.3.6.1.4.1.343.2.4.14 1.3.6.1.4.1.343.2.4.12 1.3.6.1.4.1.343.2.4.11 1.3.6.1.4.1.343.2.4.10 1.3.6.1.4.1.641. 1.3.6.1.4.1.649.2.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.367.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.368.1.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.683.1.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.683.6 1.3.6.1.4.1.835.1.1.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.835.1.1.3 1.3.6.1.4.1.835.1.1.5 1.3.6.1.4.1.1602.4 1.3.6.1.4.1.2136.2 1.3.6.1.4.1.2963 These values correspond to the following printer vendors: Xerox Corporation Hewlett Packard Emulex Corporation Tektronix D-Link Systems Inc. CWW installs this test tool in the following location by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Xerox\Xerox CentreWare Web\bin ================================================================ 7. Troubleshooting ================================================================ Other applications stop working after CWW is installed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most likely, the applications are not compatible with a system component that CWW installs. Proxy Server Settings --------------------- If a proxy server must be used to connect to the Internet, the client browser settings need to be set accordingly to ensure the browser does not try to reach the proxy server in this case. The browser should try to reach the server that hosts Xerox CentreWare® Web instead, whether through the server's IP address or NetBIOS name. Browsing to Xerox CentreWare® Web would therefore have to be perceived as an exception to the proxy server. To accomplish this, see the appropriate sections below. 1. Internet Explorer Right-click the shortcut on the desktop, select Properties, Connections tab, LAN settings button. Select the "Bypass Proxy Server Settings for Local Addresses" checkbox. Select the Advanced button. In the Exceptions section, the IP address you are browsing to must be in the “Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with:” list. A message is declared that the application is temporarily unavailable when I launch the application on Windows Server® 2008. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Verify that the ASP.NET server extension is enabled. Start -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager -> Expand the local computer -> select ASP.NET -> right click and select Allow. Files ----- The following files may be helpful when trying to troubleshoot the application.
